Heather!

Hello everyone! My name is Heather and I was born and raised in Southern California. I’ve been a flight attendant for almost 5 years now. I flew with Emirates and currently I’m with United Airlines! Here’s some of my history on how I scored my dream career!

When I was 10 I traveled with my mother to Italy to visit family and I was in awe of the world, but my journey of becoming a flight attendant actually did not start there. My brother and sister have medical careers and I thought it was best to follow in their footsteps. I went on to getting my nursing license in California and getting my then dream job at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital.

However, I always found myself dreaming of traveling and seeing the world. So I took the leap to apply for many different airlines and I told myself, “Heather if you get this job, that is a sign and you’re going to take it.” So I went for a few different interviews and got hired with Emirates Airline as cabin crew! I was surprised but deep down I knew this was meant for me. I actually didn’t tell anyone my plans on changing careers until I knew it was certain and I got my Golden call and moving date!

I spent 3.5 years living in Dubai and traveling the world with Emirates! It was some of the best times of my life! I always told myself to enjoy my time there with Emirates because I knew for myself, that it wasn’t a forever place for me to be. So I enjoyed it! From shark diving in South Arica, monthly facials in Bangkok, and having the Burj Khalifa in my backyard! I mean come on! You can’t have this lifestyle anywhere else!

I loved my time there, but I found myself getting very lonely and sad being so far away from family and friends. I was a 16 hour flight away and we had a 12 hour time change, so it was hard on me emotionally. I dated my now husband for two years long distance and it was the most difficult and rewarding thing we’ve ever had to do. Me and my husband DJ decided to elope in Seychelles and then I moved back home to start the next chapter in my life.

I took some time off to recover from the exhaustion I had from all of the time changes and international flights we had almost daily! After a few months off, I got hired with United Airlines and it was a dream come true.

I want to share this message for those of you who are nervous about starting a new career in aviation and are worried you’ll be judged about not taking the “safe” route. At the end of the day it’s your life and you get to decide if you want to work a 9-5 office job or an unexpected 1 am flight to Fiji. So I say go for it! THIS IS YOUR SIGN! You choose your destiny!

Sending love from the friendly skies,

Heather King Watson
